Avoid strenuous exercise, hard, or spicy food, or hot drinks as these may cause bleeding or soreness.
Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 24 hrs as they can cause bleeding from the extraction socket.
When the numbness wears off, the area may be tender and this can be relieved by taking a painkiller that you normally use. After meals keep the area clean by bathing it with warm salty water. This should be carried out until the initial healing phase is complete (approx 4 days).
If bleeding occurs later, place a clean damp gauge on the bleeding site (this will be provided) and bite down firmly for 10 minutes. You should get a blood clot forming at the extraction site.
If sutures have been placed you will need to return to the practice in 5 to 7 days to have the sutures removed.
If the area starts to bleed again, is very painful or you are worried, please contact the practice on 01462 894400. The phone is monitored at all times.
